Along with Louis Lopez, Mr. Jim Haynes started the Houston Open tournament in 1997. The tournament could not have grown into such an annual tradition without Mr. Haynes' initial involvement and commitment. Mr. Haynes' dedication to the sport of Judo continues to be a source of inspiration for many, and our heartfelt appreciation goes out to him for his contribution to the Houston Open Judo Tournament
Led by Sheree (Snider) Perez, Champion Judo Club took over the Houston Open in 2001. However Mrs. Perez had been an integral part of the Houston Open Judo Tournament since it first started.
In 2007, Diamondback Judo Club assumed responsibility for continuing the tradition of the HOJT.
