IMPORTANT NEWS
USA Judo requires the Certificate for Non-Black Belt Contestants for ALL shiai competitors in ALL divisions, as demonstrated by the tournament requirements for USA Judo Junior Nationals that require the non-black belt certificates for junior divisions. The entry packet for the Houston Open Judo Tournament has been revised to show this change. Please be sure that you have downloaded the current version of the Entry Packet, or that you have filled out the "Certificate of Non-Black Belt Competitors" (found on page 7 of the entry packet) if you are NOT a Black Belt, regardless of your age or division you will be entering.

The Houston Open Judo Tournament is a premier Regional judo event founded in 1997 by Mr. Jim Haynes and Mr. Louis Lopez. Currently, the Houston Open Judo Tournament (HOJT) is the only large judo tournament held in the greater Houston area.
In 2001, Mrs. Sheree (Snider) Perez and Mr. Buck Snider of Champion Judo Club assumed responsibility and worked tirelessly to ensure the continued success of the tournament.
Six years later in 2007, Diamondback Judo Club proudly assumed the honor of sponsoring the HOJT with the hosting assistance of the Friends of Houston Judo, Inc. and Clear Lake City Judo Club.
In keeping with the original desire of Mr. Jim Haynes and Mr. Louis Lopez, and the efforts of Mr. Buck Snider and Ms. Sheree Snider, it is our goal to see the HOJT continue to grow and to continue to be a source of excitement, great competition and fun for all judo competitors and spectators.
